“I found that I could not put it down. The story grabbed my attention and held it to the end.”

Jaime was considered autistic because he never talked, though he was smart and sociable. A dark trauma haunted him: He could hear other people's thoughts. He thought he was doomed to a life of isolation until Keira spoke in his mind and told him to stop broadcasting his thoughts! When the two get together, Jaime's story changes and he discovers the frightening possibilities of his talent. This is not a mind-control story. If anything, it is anti-mind-control.

Telepathy is the talent of hearing other people's thoughts, but psychologist Kenton Schwartz believes a gestalt of telepaths could force people to hear them, even if they are head deaf. With a powerful enough talent, people could be commanded. It is up to our trio of head talkers to thwart his plan.

Aroslav [Devon Layne] has created some uniquely interesting stories to share with us over the years. He somehow finds unique situations or circumstances to surround his protagonists, making them just enough different to stand out in the sea of individuals populating the world of fiction. Soulmates is no exception, except… with Jamie and Kiera, the young people who take center stage in this novel, he’s literally added a third dimension, characteristics which not only create conflict and confusion, but also directly drive the plot toward it’s ultimate resolution.

The story starts out slow, explaining our male hero’s childhood and the confusion and crisis that make him the boy he is. But that background also leads directly to the young man he will ultimately become. Kiera, the female lead follows a different path, but when the two meet, and sparks begin to fly, then the plot really starts to develop. Trust me, despite the slow start, this story is well worth the wait. There’s tension, excitement, and even exciting romance… which actually elevates the plot well beyond a typical “boy meets girl and they get it on.” This is one of the best things [Layne] has written yet. And that’s saying a lot, because he’s written a lot! Read it free online. Or better yet, buy Soulmates for your personal library. This is one you’ll want to reread again and again!
