69 Prom
“DOES SHE EVER ANSWER YOU, Brian?” Anna said softly. It scared me out of my wits. I had no idea she’d come downstairs while I was kneading the bread. I poured her a cup of coffee and added the shredded dark chocolate I’d brought with me.
“She can’t really hear me, Anna,” I said. I started to laugh. I’d said that as seriously as if I was a four-year-old explaining a fact to an adult. Anna started laughing, too.
“Don’t be too sure of that, son. Talking to her like that might have been what brought her back to us. How are things going?”
“Anna, you wouldn’t believe it,” I said, refilling my own coffee cup and sitting down with her. “She is so awesome! We are going to shoot an entire season of shows in six weeks this summer. She negotiated it! The director of media at IU is using her as a regular guest speaker. And she is so good! When she walks on stage, she owns them. And you should have seen this one girl’s final project. When she shot our first cooking show this semester, it was so bad we had to fire her and redo it. But Hannah mentored her. Can you believe it? She cost us an entire day’s work and instead of being mad, Hannah spent time to coach her through her final project. It was outstanding. Now that same girl is going to be our lead cameraman this summer.”
“Wow! Brian. Slow down. Everything sounds so rosy now.” I paused to think it over. I’d been so enthused about what Hannah was doing that I just jabbered on. I really was turning into a four-year-old. I took a deep breath.
“Mostly, things are good,” I said. “We still have times—moments—when she just disappears. I don’t mean literally. But you can see it. She can be standing right in front of you and some little thing triggers her and you can see her just fade away. We’ve been lucky. Except for the week I got Doreen pregnant, we’ve caught her before it slipped too deep. We really blew that one.”
“Tell me about it.”
“Anna, I don’t know that I can really go into detail without freaking you out. Let’s just say that everyone knew exactly when Doreen and I were working on it. Everyone was excited and happy. Then in the morning I looked around and no Hannah. She was curled up in a little ball in bed—past tears. She was vacant. When we reached to comfort her, she pushed us away. It was the worst I’ve seen her since the episode with the lighting estimate,” I said. “She realized that it would never be her that was trying to get pregnant. It was just too much.”
“How did you get past it?”
“Doreen did it. She told Hannah that she might not bear the children, but every child born to the clan would be hers. It was so sweet.”
“And that made it all better?”
“It was a slow process that week. She talked to Dr. McCall. But, Saturday night when I came in, Hannah was sitting in the chair holding Maddie against her bare chest and was just in a state of bliss,” I said.
“Maddie?”
“Oh shit. Anna, don’t say anything to Mom about Betts coming to visit us.”
“When did Betts come to visit you?” Mom asked from the doorway.
“Oh shit, shit, shit.”
“Watch your language and bring me some coffee, young man.”
“Yes, ma’am.” Mom bent to kiss Anna while I got her coffee. I put the bread loaves in the oven.
“So, your sister knew all along. And you knew she was pregnant. Anna, you can go be with Betts and Hayden can be with Brian. I’m going to stay home and pout,” Mom said.
“Oh, Mom. I’m sorry. I didn’t even know she was coming. And then they swore me to secrecy. Betts will be so pissed that I let it slip. I’ll do anything,” I said. Mom and Anna looked at each other and I saw them both raise an eyebrow. “Within reason,” I added lamely.
After having completely emptied and cleaned the garage for Mom, including using a degreaser on the cement floor, I finally managed to get showered to go pick up Mary. Doreen got back around one and sat outside to help by giving instructions when she saw a place I missed. She kept bugging me to tell her what Mom had over me that she could get me to clean the garage. And, of course, I couldn’t tell her.
“Well, two can play the game of secrets. Just remember that when you bring Mary home tonight, I’m going to be sitting naked in bed waiting for you.”
“Oh, Doreen!”
“Oh, yeah!”
I took Mary to dinner and a movie. When I picked her up, she tossed an overnight bag in the back of the truck.
“Did you get permission to sleep over tonight?” I asked.
“I told Mom and Dad that I was having a sleepover with Doreen and the girls tonight. I didn’t mention that you’d be there, too,” she giggled.
“Or that the girls wouldn’t be?” I asked.
“Who said that?” Doreen and her secrets!
Here’s a joke. A comedian, a songwriter, a singer, and a baseball manager go off to Vegas. With their buddy, a rich young playboy, for his bachelor party. What could go wrong? Oh. That wasn’t a joke. That was the movie. I swear, Kim Basinger couldn’t act her way out of a paper bag, but she didn’t need to. I mean, she’s Kim Basinger getting it on or taking it off. That’s all I remember about the movie. I was a little distracted. Mary refused to tell me anything more about the sleepover plans.
“I said you have my permission to touch me inside my clothes,” Mary whispered as we sat in the back of the dark theater. How the hell did I miss that invitation? I quit paying attention to the movie at all and focused my energy on Mary. I don’t think she saw much more of the movie, either.
“Proper sleepwear,” Mom said as the girls lined up.
She hadn’t been kidding. Mary, Lexi, Judy, Theresa, Susan, Pam, and Nancy were all lined up in shorty pajamas. Doreen had one of my T-shirts on. And a pair of my boxers. I found a clean pair of pajama bottoms in my drawer. I think Dad might have helped with that.
“Brian, remember that not all these girls are over seventeen yet. Keep it in your shorts.”
“Mom!” We all hustled into the bedroom. It was a lot more crowded than my room upstairs used to be. “I have no idea how we’re all going to sleep in this one bed,” I said to the girls.
“Who said anything about sleeping? This is a slumber party!” TK said happily.
“And some of us are over seventeen,” Lexi said. “So just because you keep it in your shorts doesn’t mean we can’t get in there with it.”
“Dare or dare, Brian,” Judy said.
“I thought the game was Truth or Dare,” I said.
“Who cares about the truth? We want to get to the dares,” she said.
“Oh.”
It was a long night.
Having not made it back to the florist on Friday, I had to deliver all the girls to their homes Saturday morning and then go get Mary’s corsage.
“You don’t look like you’ll make it through the prom tonight,” the florist said. “Don’t tell me, you started the after-prom the night before?”
“You would not believe it. The eight of them tag-teamed me all night long. Just to keep me awake all night.”
“Eight!”
“You wouldn’t understand,” I moaned.
“No. You’re right. I wouldn’t.” She wrapped my flower and shooed me out of the shop so I could go get a little sleep before I had to get ready for the big night.
All night long, first one girl and then the other had thought up silly dares for me to do. Somehow, I never got a turn.
“Brian, I dare you to go kiss Anna goodnight. On the mouth.”
“Brian, I dare you to go out in your pajamas and get us ice cream. At the store.”
“Brian, I dare you to kiss Pam with intent for a minute.”
Well, some of the dares were more interesting than others.
I crashed as soon as I got back to the house and thankfully, I was left alone until time to get ready for the big night. I awoke to the wonderful sensation of Doreen sucking on my cock. I opened my eyes and petted her hair. She popped off my cock and smiled at me.
“I thought I’d take off the edge so you last through the prom before you start ravishing your date,” she said.
“Dor, you do such a great job of getting me on the edge, it’s unbelievable.” She pushed herself off and stripped beside the bed. Then she crawled on top of me and positioned my cock at her pussy before sinking down on it with a sigh.
“I know you’ve already put our little baby in my tummy,” she said, “but we should practice for his sister. And I love having you in me like this.” I reached between us and felt along the moistness of her slit where we were joined, smearing her lubrication up along her clit. “Oh, yeah. Now you’ve got me on the edge. Just a little harder on the side. Right there! Oh!” Doreen’s climax hit her suddenly and she froze, throwing her head back as if the answer to all life’s questions was on the ceiling. I reached for her breasts and drew little circles around her nipples with my fingers. She jerked as if she’d been electrocuted and another moan escaped her lips before she slowly sagged forward and lay on my chest.
“I love you, Doreen, mother of my child to be. I want to practice with you as often as we can.”
“Do it, then, darling. Move in me. Fill me with your love.” It didn’t take long for me to roll her onto her back and pick up a rhythm that had me filling her as I kissed her lips tenderly.
The pre-prom dinner might not have had as much pomp as they had when our generation went to prom. It was held at a Chinese restaurant and we all simply entered with our dates and sat around a big family-style table. Lexi and Judy were with Ross and Monte, but no one was sure who the couples were. George and Pam looked cute, but Pam looked almost overwhelmed at even being out with the rest of the group. She wouldn’t be seventeen until mid-August and her parents had been reluctant to let her go to prom. They were double-dating with Rich and a girl I’d not met before. She was introduced as Amber Drake and looked more than curious when each of our group addressed me as Patrón. Amber wasn’t the only new face.
Theresa was with a senior introduced as David who was purported to be a great dancer. I thought it was sweet that they were double-dating with Leonard and Nancy, the other two of our still sixteen-year-olds. Leonard was amazing. He had turned into a pretty handsome guy and I was immediately put in mind of Warren. Give Leonard a couple years and he could be one of those GQ type models. Except he was considerably more flamboyant than Warren. The cut of Leonard’s—I’m not sure you could call it a tux—suit, I guess—was reminiscent of the renaissance. It wasn’t as colorful, but it was a black brocade that he rocked with a ruffled shirt and his white clan belt. Nancy was nothing short of elegant in her matching white brocade gown with a ruffle that went right up under her chin. The gown came down to what looked like an impossibly narrow waist. The real surprise was that Leonard had designed and sewn both their outfits.
Susan was also with a new guy, who she introduced as Randy. The poor guy seemed awestruck by the whole event and shook my hand vigorously.
“A pleasure,” he said. “It’s a pleasure to meet you, Patrón. A pleasure.” Apparently, he was happy to meet me. I wondered what Susan had told him.
After dinner, we all went to the dance. A couple of the kids were being transported by parents, but most had one person who was a licensed driver. None of them rented limos or went overboard. We all sat together at the dance at two tables and there were a few dances that we shared with people other than our partners. I had one dance with each of the girls of our clan, but mostly I stayed with Mary. During one dance, Rich and Amber moved up next to us and cut in.
“Amber, it’s nice to meet you,” I said as we danced. For some reason, the music seemed more sedate this year and there were a lot more slow dances than I remembered from years past.
“And you, Patrón,” she said softly.
“You don’t have to call me that. Just Brian is fine.”
“You wouldn’t believe what I had to go through to get a date with Rich,” she laughed. “He got me together with David and Randy and their dates and gave us all a lecture on the rules of dating and being respectful to each other and especially to you. We had to sign an agreement. Poor Randy was shaking in his boots.” I laughed.
“I guess that’s what I get for coming back to a prom after I’ve graduated. If it wasn’t for Mary…”
“Oh God, is she in love! I’ve been hanging out with the group for the past month or six weeks. I really like them all.”
“Mary is very special to me,” I sighed. The song came to an end and we walked to the tables. Amber stopped me a few feet away.
“I know it’s not required for me to ask you, but I feel like I should, anyway. Would it… Will it create any problems if I give Rich permission to make love to me tonight? I know he used to date Susan. I don’t want to create problems. But, I kind of want to go to the next level with him and I think he does, too,” she said.
“I can’t speak for any of the others, especially for Rich,” I said. “I think his break-up with Susan was pretty amicable. You should know that since they are both members of the same casa that they are often together at clan events. I don’t think there is any jealousy there, though. I know he’s dated others this past year. There’s only one thing that I’d add. Be honest with Rich and with yourself. You’re seventeen and this could be a one-time thing or it could be a lifetime thing. Use protection and act in love, not greed. That’s how we roll.”
“Thank you, Brian.” She kissed me on the cheek and we returned to our dates.
The program was different this year than when my class had gone to prom. Maybe that was why there seemed to be fewer limos and more slow songs during the dance. At two o’clock, everyone ran to the locker rooms to change clothes. The formals and tuxes came off and the guys wore slacks and shirts with sport coats. The girls all rejoined us in shorter party dresses and many of them in flats instead of heels. When we returned to the gym, there was a new DJ and things started rocking. It was the official after-prom party. Some people had disappeared, but those who remained were set to dance the whole night long. George, Pam, Rich, and Amber all left at one o’clock because Pam had a firm curfew at two. Rich and Amber would be taking off for parts unknown when George dropped them off. Leonard’s mom picked Nancy and him up at two and took them home.
The DJ was unbelievable. He played everything from classic rock to electronica. The one thing consistent was that it was seamless. There was never an end without it being the beginning. For two hours we never left the dancefloor. People were pumped up and sweating like a gym full of teenagers. At four-thirty, they announced the movie would begin in ten minutes. Everyone grabbed their chairs and lined them up so we could face the screen. There were a lot of sleepy heads leaning against each other, but the prom committee chose a great movie. Ghost was all about Whoopi Goldberg. What else the movie was about kept most of us awake until breakfast was announced in the cafeteria at seven o’clock.
At eight, four hundred sleep-deprived teens left the school. About a quarter, including me, were driving. I took a large cup of coffee to go with us and in ninety minutes, with Mary asleep on my shoulder, we pulled into Warren Dunes on the shores of Lake Michigan.
It was still pretty chilly out, though the wind from the lake meant we had a bright clear day. Mary told me to stand guard at the door of the truck while she changed into her bikini. There were a few other cars arriving and some people we recognized, but mostly I watched Mary change into her bikini. I don’t care how old I get or how many girlfriends I have, I will never get tired of watching one take off all her clothes and then stuff her little girlie bits into a couple triangles of fabric that have to be stretched to cover the important parts.
I guess Mary enjoyed watching me change, as well. It was all I could do to get my erect cock in my trunks with her holding it in her hand.
We took our blanket and our cooler and trudged over the dunes until we found a secluded spot. Then we spread out the blanket, fell into each other’s arms, and went to sleep.
Through the course of the morning, we woke periodically to greet friends who whistled at us. Some even spread blankets nearby. At noon, we all opened our coolers and traded sandwiches, sodas, and even deviled eggs. It was a great party. We were revived enough to climb Tower Hill and then run down to the water’s edge and dip our toes in. It was way too cold to dip anything else.
About one-thirty, we packed up our stuff and headed home.
“A month,” Mary said sleepily. She leaned against me and made no move to get out of the car, even though we were parked in her drive. “Just a month and I’ll graduate. I plan to move the next week, along with most of the rest of us. Only, I’m not moving for just the summer. I’m moving home.”
“I can’t wait to have you with us, Mary.”
“I won’t be ready to do it the day I get there, you know,” she said. “I love the fact that you’ve been courting me. Especially the phone call each week. I’m really looking forward to being with you as my lover for a long time to come. I want the time to be right, not just convenient.”
“I’ll be pretty busy the first couple weeks you are there. First summer term doesn’t end until the end of the month. And we’ll be scurrying around trying to get the inside projects finished before we start filming in July. It’s going to be a pretty crazy summer. School will almost seem relaxing.”
“Are you okay to drive back tonight? You haven’t had much sleep,” she said.
“No. Fortunately, Doreen is my designated driver. All I need to do is get from here to Mom’s. Then Doreen takes over.”
“I love you, Brian. Drive carefully.”
I kissed Mary passionately. Even as tired as we were, we were awake enough for that. Finally, I grabbed the ice chest and walked her to her door.
